Senate President Godswill Akpabio has pledged that the federal government will refund N15 billion to the Ekiti State government for expenses incurred on federal roads. This announcement was made during the 2025 Ekiti State University convocation, where Akpabio praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the “most humble Governor in Nigeria”.
Akpabio commended Oyebanji for his commitment to education, citing the recent establishment of a new Federal University of Environmental Science and Technology in Iyin Ekiti. He also acknowledged the governor’s efforts in improving infrastructure, particularly the 17km road to the university.
The Senate President directed that the federal road from the airport must be completed before his next visit, emphasizing the need for quality infrastructure to support the state’s educational facilities. He assured the audience that the federal government will partner with the state to achieve this goal.
Akpabio’s pledge to refund N15 billion to Ekiti State is a welcome development, as the state government had previously disclosed that it spent over N15 billion on federal roads, including the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road.
This announcement is expected to boost the state’s economy and improve its infrastructure, and is seen as a testament to the positive working relationship between the federal government and the Ekiti State government.

This is a very cheering news and good development for the refund of #15billion by the Federal Government to the state.
