Ekiti State has made a strong start at the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, also known as the Gateway Games, held in Ogun State. On Sunday, May 18, 2025, Abayomi Adeleye secured the state’s first medal, a Bronze medal in the 55kg weight category, contributing to Ekiti’s position on the medals table.
Adeleye’s impressive performance saw him defeat ten of the thirteen competitors in his category. He expressed his delight in winning the medal and hopes it marks the beginning of further successes for Ekiti.
Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor to Governor Oyebanji on Sports Development, conveyed her excitement about Ekiti’s positive start and optimism that the state will secure Gold and additional medals as the competition continues.
The Ekiti contingent will continue their quest for medals on Monday, May 19, 2025, competing in various events, including weightlifting, Judo, cycling, and more.
