The Ekiti State Government has taken delivery of 110 solar-powered pumps and accessories to construct additional Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas and 22 Local Council Development Areas.
The project, executed under the World Bank-backed Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) Program, aims to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services in underserved communities. State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, explained that buying the pumps in bulk would save costs and ensure standardization of pump quality and after-installation servicing.
This development is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to guarantee adequate provision of potable water, sanitation, and hygiene to residents, building on the progress made in the past two years, including the rehabilitation of 121 WASH facilities and construction of 64 solar-powered boreholes.
