CPN Inaugurates Technical Committee In Ekiti

The Children Protection Network (CPN) has inaugurated a technical committee to domesticate the Alternative Child Care Guidelines in Ekiti State, marking a significant step towards reforming child care in the state.

The committee, comprising stakeholders from various sectors, is expected to study guidelines from other states and develop a tailored approach for Ekiti. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Omolayo Olatilu, commended CPN for advocating for alternative child care, citing the limitations of institutional care.

The National Coordinator for CPN, Olakunle Sanni, noted that the committee would engage relevant stakeholders to develop a comprehensive guideline.

The UNICEF representative, Denice Onoise, emphasized the importance of alternative child care in reforming children and advocated for its adoption, urging the government to prioritize rehabilitation over imprisonment for children who have committed offenses.
