A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Peter Obafemi, has vowed to tackle insecurity in the state head-on if elected into office.
Obafemi lamented that the poor condition of roads in Ekiti has become a tool for criminals to prey on innocent road users, and promised to strengthen the Amotekun Corps and support for conventional security agencies to fight insecurity to a standstill. During a visit to stakeholders in Ikole Local Government Area, Obafemi outlined his plans to mount 24-hour surveillance on the state’s borders, deploying the Amotekun Corps to forests to checkmate the activities of herdsmen, bandits, and kidnappers.
He expressed dismay that Ekiti State, despite its resources and manpower, has allowed miscreants to torment its citizens. Obafemi also bemoaned the state of education in Ekiti under the All Progressives Congress-led government, citing poor performance in external examinations.
He promised to provide free education for Ekiti children and youths if elected, saying the state’s resources would be judiciously utilized to achieve this goal. The PDP governorship hopeful’s proposals aim to change the current narrative in Ekiti, improving the standard of living and livelihoods of residents.
