Ekiti Government Partners Durian Foundation to Empower 500 Youths through Waste-to-Wealth Initiative

The Ekiti State Government is set to partner with Durian Foundation, a private organization, to turn waste to wealth by empowering 500 youths in the state. The partnership aims to convert local resources, waste, and land into prosperity for the state through social enterprises and community work.

Representative of Durian Foundation, Tony Joy, expressed the organization’s readiness to engage youths in Ekiti State in agricultural activities, creating an ecosystem to guide planting, production, processing, and reuse of waste. The foundation plans to use technology to drive farming and climate matters, making it easier for young people to participate in agriculture.

The initiative also aims to teach people how to create crafts, reduce local waste, and attract more people to agriculture. Tony Joy charged residents, especially youths, not to abandon their local communities, describing rural areas as the coolest and best places for opportunities.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Farm Settlement and Agriculture, Mr. Adewole Matthew, re-emphasized the government’s commitment to improving food security and partnering with notable investors. He encouraged youths to take advantage of the opportunity provided by Durian Foundation to save themselves from hunger and poverty, assuring them of government support in marketing their farm produce.
