Ekiti State Government and IMPACT Project Engage 100 Skilled Birth Attendants to Boost Maternal and Infant Health Services

The Ekiti State Government, in partnership with the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project, has recruited 100 skilled birth attendants to strengthen maternal and infant health services in the state. The newly recruited birth attendants, comprising nurses, midwives, and Community Health Officers, are expected to assist and support facilities in delivering qualitative maternal and child health care services in communities.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Funke Ogunbunmi, stated that the employment of new health staff was aimed at filling noticeable human resources gaps in the primary healthcare level of the state. She lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his significant impact, investment, and interventions in the health sector, noting that such interventions have transformed the health status of the state in recent times.

The Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rasheed Adepoju, expressed hope that the newly engaged workers would add value to the system by providing quality healthcare to the health-seeking population at the grassroots. He charged them to justify the government’s confidence in them by being committed to their duties and helping the state reduce maternal and under-five mortality rates.

The Project Manager of the IMPACT project, Dr. Sunday Omoya, disclosed that the main objective of the project is to reduce maternal and under-five mortality by strengthening primary healthcare structures through the engagement of skilled birth attendants.

The newly engaged workers will be integrated into the Ekiti State public service through the Local Government Service Commission after the expiration of their one-year contract with the IMPACT project.
