Ekiti State University Promotes Renowned Geologist to Professor

Ekiti State University has promoted Adeyinka Oluyemi Aturamu to the esteemed position of Professor, effective October 1, 2024. As a distinguished expert in Micropalaeontology and Palaeoceanography, Professor Aturamu currently serves as the Acting Head of the Department of Geology. With an impressive academic portfolio boasting 44 scholarly works, his dedication to research and education is evident.

Professor Aturamu’s academic journey began with his first two degrees from Ondo State University and University of Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University, where he earned his BSc in 1997 and MSc in 2008. He furthered his education at the University of Leicester, England, earning a Ph.D. in Micropaleontology in 2015. His research prowess is underscored by his ability to attract over ₦50 million in departmental resources within ten months and securing a ₦2 million research grant.

Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Aturamu plays pivotal roles in university administration and is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, The Micropalaeontological Society (UK), and the Geological Society of America. His commitment to social impact is reflected in his philanthropic endeavors and Christian leadership.

Having begun his career at Ekiti State University as an assistant lecturer in 2009, Professor Aturamu’s rise to prominence is a testament to his hard work and dedication. With citations reaching 326 on Google Scholar, his research in Micropaleontology and climate studies continues to have a significant impact.
