EKITI GOVERNMENT MOVES TO UNBUNDLE POWER GENERATION SECTOR FOR ADEQUATE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

The Ekiti State Government has initiated plans to unbundle the power generation component of its electricity supply chain with the aim of increasing energy access to unserved and under-served customers across the state. Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, revealed this during a stakeholders meeting on Electricity Distribution Network in the state.

Aluko explained that most parts of the state are under-served while others are completely unserved, necessitating the need for partnership with independent investors to increase electricity generation and maximize the use of existing network lines. He sought collaborative efforts from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and interested investors to utilize the existing network lines for electricity generation.

The Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau, Samson David, assured investors that the agency will work to ensure the partnership yields results. Representatives of independent investors and BEDC discussed the framework for collaboration, emphasizing the need for a solid agreement to protect existing network lines and ensure reliable energy supply.

The initiative aims to provide adequate access to reliable and accessible energy, which is essential for education, health, and economic systems. The state government believes that this move will help address the electricity challenges faced by residents and promote economic growth.
