Ekiti State Government Launches Digital Literacy Programme for 1,000 Youths

The Ekiti State Government has taken a significant step towards empowering its young population by launching a digital literacy training programme for 1,000 youths in the state. The programme, known as the Ekiti Digital Accelerated Programme, is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Youth Development and Motivar.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by his Chief of Staff, Adeniyi Adebayo, emphasized the administration’s commitment to youth development and job creation. He stated that the programme would equip young people between the ages of 15 and 20 with the necessary ICT skills to become computer literate, marketable, employable, and useful to themselves and society.

The governor highlighted that the programme aligns with his administration’s six-pillar agenda, which prioritizes youth development and job creation. He also disclosed that efforts are being made to improve access to digital literacy, including the provision of power, creation of digital centers, and infusion of technology into school curricula.

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Adesola Gold Adedayo, described the programme as a significant milestone in preparing youths for the challenges and opportunities of a digital future. She emphasized that the programme would unlock potential, create access to the global digital economy, and equip youths to become tech entrepreneurs, remote workers, and digital consultants.

The CEO of Motivar, Mayowa Akinleye, commended the Ekiti State Government for initiating the programme, noting that it would address the problem of youth lack of access to digital literacy in Africa. With this programme, the Ekiti State Government is taking a proactive approach to empowering its youths and preparing them for the demands of the digital age.
