Ikole to Host Ekiti State’s First Inclusive Public School

Ekiti State is set to establish a purpose-built inclusive public school in Ikole, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to providing education for all. The project was announced by the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion on June 18, 2025, at the national conference of the Nigeria Association of Special Education Teachers.

The school will welcome learners with and without disabilities in the same classrooms, promoting inclusivity and diversity. Scheduled to open at the start of the 2025 and 2026 academic session in September 2025, the school is expected to provide a conducive learning environment for all students.

Government funding for construction and equipment has already been secured in the current capital budget, and teacher training in inclusive pedagogy has begun. This initiative builds on the Ekiti Children Therapy Centre opened in November 2024 in Ado Ekiti, further extending the state commitment to education that leaves no child behind.

The establishment of this inclusive school is a testament to the state’s dedication to providing quality education for all its citizens, regardless of their abilities. With its scheduled opening just around the corner, the school is poised to make a positive impact on the lives of many students in Ekiti State.
