The Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba Adegoke Olu Adeyemi, joined his ancestors today, Saturday, August 9, 2025, prompting mourning across his hometown and beyond.
A retired Permanent Secretary and Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Oba Adeyemi was born on 4 December 1942 into a royal family in Aramoko-Ekiti, one of the 16 crowned kings of Ekiti. His education began at St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School and St. Finbarr’s Secondary Modern School in Aramoko Ekiti, followed by teacher training at St. John’s Teachers Training College, Ibadan, and Ondo/Oyo Joint Provincial College, Ile‑Ife. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Lagos and a postgraduate diploma in Public Administration from the University of Ife.
A member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and a Justice of the Peace, Oba Adeyemi was a respected figure in Yorubaland and counted among the three legendary Yoruba royal brothers alongside the Ajero of Ijero and the Orangun of Ila.
Renowned in tradition and song, the trio are regarded as descendants of Oduduwa and were taught the Ifa philosophy by Agbonniregun; custom held that descendants of these rulers would not meet face‑to‑face but communicated through emissaries.
