Aramoko Chieftaincy Family Appeals to Ooni and Governor Over Regent Dispute

The Aba Atiba Chieftaincy family of Aramoko Ekiti has called on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, to intervene in the ongoing dispute surrounding the choice of regent following the death of Oba Olu Adeyemi, the late Alara of Aramoko.

The family strongly opposes the plan to appoint a female regent, stating that this contradicts the town’s age-old tradition which requires the regent to always come from the Aba Atiba lineage.

Busuyi Ogunlana, speaking on behalf of the family, warned that naming the late king’s daughter as regent threatens to ignite tensions and disregards the cultural heritage of Aramoko.

Ogunlana recalled past instances where the tradition was honoured without controversy, stressing that Aramoko has never had female regents and any attempt to alter this could have serious consequences.

The family emphasised their desire for peace but insisted that tradition must be respected and the correct course followed for the community’s wellbeing.
