Herdsman Abubakar Umar has pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful grazing and permitting cattle to graze unlawfully on farmland at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The 25-year-old, with no fixed address, stands accused of grazing his cattle on Ilemeso farm in Isan-Ekiti on 26 August, damaging crops worth N5 million belonging to Emmanuel Nasoma and others.

Prosecutor Insp Akinwale Oriyomi explained that the charges violate Ekiti State’s Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminants Grazing law of 2016.

The court granted Umar bail of N500,000 with two sureties, and the case was adjourned until 7 October for hearing.
