Ekiti Government Eyes 65-Year Retirement Age for Teachers with Promise of Better Benefits 

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has pledged improved welfare for teachers, including raising the retirement age to 65, increasing allowances for science teachers, and settling outstanding gratuities before the end of his term.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti during a meeting with the Nigeria Union of Teachers’ new leadership, Oyebanji praised teachers’ vital role in the state’s development and vowed to ensure their well-being for better education outcomes.

He stressed that teachers will no longer be considered second-class citizens and promised continuous professional support to make their jobs more rewarding.

The union’s chairman, Comrade Lawrence Egbeyemi, expressed gratitude for prompt salaries, better working conditions, career progression, and recruitment of over 2,000 new teachers under the current administration.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his commitment to making Ekiti a leading state in education, promising to leave no stone unturned.
