Ekiti State is gearing up for its September Environmental Sanitation Exercise, themed “Healthy Living Through Clean Environment”. The exercise is scheduled for Saturday, 27th September, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
All markets and commercial centres will be closed during the exercise hours, with movement restricted except for those on essential duties. Residents are urged to sweep their surroundings, clear blocked drainages, desilt gutters, weed, and properly dispose of waste. Traders are directed to clean their stalls on Thursday during the weekly market sanitation, while civil servants and other workers are expected to clean their office spaces on Friday.
Environmental Health Officers, NGOs, and security agencies will monitor compliance with the sanitation exercise, and defaulters will be prosecuted by mobile courts. The Permanent Secretary has appealed to residents to support the sanitation drive in order to promote a cleaner and healthier Ekiti State.
The Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, has also emphasised the importance of compliance, warning that violations won’t be tolerated.
