From October 6, all Nigerian graduates must submit their final year theses or project reports to the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) to qualify for NYSC mobilisation or exemption, following a new policy approved by President Tinubu.

The reform, anchored in the NYSC Act, aims to combat certificate fraud and boost academic quality by ensuring all academic works are time-stamped and verified.

This applies to graduates of Nigerian and foreign institutions alike, requiring proof of NERD compliance before mobilisation, but not affecting current corps members.

A reward system has also been approved to allow students and lecturers to monetise their academic outputs.

The policy will be enforced by MDAs and educational institutions, with support from agencies like the National Identity Management Commission to aid validation.Β
