With profound sadness, the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti announces the passing of Bishop Emeritus Michael Olatunji Fagun, former Bishop of the Ekiti Catholic Diocese, who departed this life on October 13, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on April 17, 1935, in Akure, Ondo State, Bishop Fagun dedicated his life to serving God and humanity, leaving an indelible mark on the Catholic faith in Ekiti and beyond. Ordained a priest on July 4, 1965, he later became the first Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, where he served with unwavering commitment.
Bishop Fagun’s notable achievements include founding the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel, a religious congregation, and translating the Bible into Yoruba, promoting inculturation in the Church. His selflessness, sacrifice, and commitment to serving others have been widely acknowledged.
The late bishop emeritus will be remembered for his tireless efforts in spreading the gospel and enhancing pastoral work in the southwestern region of Nigeria. He also initiated the construction of the Pope John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Ado-Ekiti, a hub for retreats, conferences, and seminars.
