Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to professionalism in the state’s civil service, saying politics and mediocrity will no longer have a place in public service operations.
Speaking at the 2025 Ekiti State Public Service Forum and Award of Excellence held at the Adetiloye Hall, Trade Fair Complex, Ado-Ekiti, the governor, represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, said the state’s progress rests on the dedication and competence of its workforce.
Oyebanji noted that politicising the service weakens its efficiency and undermines productivity, stressing that his government would continue to promote merit and integrity in recruitment, appointments and promotions.
He said the administration’s achievements were made possible through the cooperation of civil servants who had remained loyal and hard-working.
“You have seen how we have operated with a human face in the last three years. We are not going to consider politics in appointing people into positions.
“You could all attest to how we have promoted professionalism and merit over mediocrity. We are not going to encourage any action that can undermine your capacity to deliver,” he said.
The governor listed prompt payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities and regular promotions as proof of his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, adding that N14.6 billion had been paid in gratuities and N25 billion on pensions within three years.
The Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, commended the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare and reforming the civil service.
