Security: Irepodun/Ifelodun LG Orders Forest Sweep to Curb Kidnapping and Banditry

To make the environment and forest areas safe from kidnappers and bandits, the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government yesterday commenced a comprehensive bush-combing exercise across forest corridors within the council area.

The exercise was ordered by the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Oluwatuyi as part of measures to ensure the safety of lives and property and to rid the area of criminal activities before, during and after the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The operation was carried out by a joint security team comprising operatives of the Ekiti State Security Network (Amotekun Corps), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, among other security agencies.

Security operatives combed identified forest routes, border communities, and remote locations considered vulnerable to criminal infiltration, with the aim of flushing out suspected criminals and denying them access to forest hideouts.

The initiative aligns with the broader security efforts of the Ekiti State Government, which emphasizes proactive and preventive measures to sustain peace and security across communities, particularly during festive periods.

Residents of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government have welcomed the exercise, describing it as timely and reassuring, and expressing confidence that the heightened security presence will ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.

The council has assured that surveillance and security patrols will be sustained to maintain a crime-free environment across all communities within the local government area.
