The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men, Akinleye Samuel (20) and Azeez Atanda (23), before an Ado-Ekiti magistrates’ court over alleged possession of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Aina, told the court that the defendants were found in possession of the substances on December 26, 2025, at about 8pm in Iyin-Ekiti.

He alleged that they conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by constituting a nuisance in a public place contrary to Section 5(1) of the Indian Hemp Act LFN 2004 and Section 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to admit his clients to bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, D. M. Babalogbon, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum, and adjourned to February 1.
