Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Urges Residents to Maintain Clean Environment to Prevent Epidemics

On World Clean-Up Day in Ado Ekiti, Governor Biodun Oyebanji called on everyone to keep the environment clean and avoid actions that cause hazards, emphasising the importance of hygiene for healthy living and safety.

Represented by the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority’s Director General, Mr Sunkanmi Onipede, the governor highlighted measures like the purchase of 60 new dino bins, three waste trucks, and plans for a recycling plant in Ilokun to promote proper waste disposal and reduce pollution risks.

He urged fashion designers and residents to dispose of unwanted fabrics responsibly, in line with this year’s theme, “Tackling Textile and Fashion Waste Through Circular Fashion.”

The General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Oludare Asaolu, warned against dumping refuse in waterways and drainage to prevent flooding and epidemics.

Support from agencies like NEMA, Red Cross, and TGED was voiced, and a clean-up march took place through key areas in Ado Ekiti to raise awareness on healthy living and environmental care.
