An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that 18-year-old Solomon Sunday be remanded at a correctional centre for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of defilement.
Prosecutor Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole told the court that the alleged offence occurred on August 24 in Ado-Ekiti. He explained that Solomon called the victim and her older sibling to run an errand while their mother was away. Upon their return, he allegedly sent the elder sibling away and defiled the younger child.
Bamikole requested that the court remand the defendant pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), citing Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, did not take the defendant’s plea and ordered his remand at the correctional centre.
She adjourned the case to October 14 for mention.
