Ekiti 2026: PDP Aspirant Raises Alarm, Accuses Governor Of Threat Of Violence

……Urges Tinubu To Intervene.

ABUJA – An aspirant for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in what he said is the “dangerous rise in politically motivated violence” in the state.

Otunba Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the call has become necessary following the state Governor, Biodun Oyebanji’s ‘undemocratic actions.’

He accused the governor of “hounding dissenting voices” and deploying thuggery to intimidate the opposition in a bid to force his way back to power.

The governorship aspirant also called on federal security agencies to urgently intervene in the situation, warning that if left unchecked the development could destabilize the peace and stability of Ekiti before the poll.

His remarks were contained in a statement by his Media Director, Wasiu Adejumo, on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

“This call builds on my earlier outcry that my life has been under threat”, Otunba Fayose said.

“Governor Oyebanji, sensing rejection by the people and even within his own party, has now resorted to violence as his fallback option. No democracy should tolerate such an assault on opposition voices,” the statement read.

Otunba Fayose referenced a recent viral video in which Governor Oyebanji allegedly threatened political appointees with dismissal if they failed to actively propagate his administration.

He questioned what the political appointees are being asked to propagate when little has been done to uplift the lives of ordinary people.

He urged the Presidency, the National Security Adviser and the Inspector-General of Police to protect democracy and prevent further escalation of the situation.

Continuing, he said: “Ekiti people are resilient and will not bow to intimidation, but it is the responsibility of the federal government to act before things worsen further.”
