The Ekiti State Police have brought ten individuals before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, accusing them of unlawful possession and smoking of Indian hemp.
According to Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the prosecutor, the accused were caught at about 5 am on September 9 at Ijadu, Ado-Ekiti, where they were found smoking and behaving in a way likely to cause a breach of the peace and public unrest.
The offences violate Sections 421 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021 and Section 5 of the Indian Hemp Act LFN 2004.
Defence counsel, Barrister O.G. Abiola, requested bail for the defendants, which Chief Magistrate Mr Abayomi Adeosun granted at N100,000 each with one surety in the like amount.
The case has been adjourned to October 6 for further hearing.
