Ekiti Among States to Benefit from Dangote Refinery’s Reduced Petrol Prices

Dangote Refinery has announced a nationwide reduction in its petrol retail prices, bringing relief to consumers across several Nigerian states including Ekiti. The 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery set its gantry price at N820 per litre, maintaining the same price announced last month but lowering prices in key states from previous rates. In Ekiti, alongside Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and Ondo, the new retail price has been reduced to N841 per litre from N860, marking a N19 decrease.

Meanwhile, in Abuja, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Kwara, prices dropped more significantly from N885 to N851 per litre, a reduction of N34. This price adjustment is set to take effect from Monday, 15th September 2025, according to a fresh pricing template released by Dangote Group on its official X account.

While the price drop is welcomed, it comes amid ongoing tensions between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). It’s important to note that this pricing template is not mandatory for all petroleum marketers and retailers, applying only to major partners like MRS and other distributors linked to Dangote Refinery.

For Ekiti residents, the price cut offers a much-needed easing of fuel costs compared to other states in the region, highlighting its advantage in the South-West alongside other key urban areas.

As petrol prices fluctuate across Nigeria, this move by Dangote Refinery could set a precedent, potentially encouraging other suppliers to reconsider their pricing strategies ahead of a challenging period for consumers nationwide.
