The 2025 Joint Tax Board (JTB) Strategic Retreat has officially begun at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Centre in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Running from 11 to 14 September, the event was declared open by Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
Under the theme “Re-imagining the Nigerian Tax Eco-System: Harnessing the Four Tax Reform Laws as Game Changers in Tax Administration,” the retreat gathers key stakeholders to discuss the implementation and impact of recent tax reform laws, including the Nigerian Tax Act, Nigerian Tax Administration Act, Nigerian Revenue Service Act, and Joint Revenue Service Act.
Notable attendees include Mr Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Reforms; Professor Abiola Sani, SAN; and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), represented by Alhaji M.L. Abubakar.
Also present was Mr Olusegun Adesokan, Executive Secretary of the JTB, who delivered the welcome address. All 37 Chairmen of State Internal Revenue Services, including the Federal Capital Territory, participated fully, highlighting the collaborative effort needed for Nigeria’s tax reform journey.
The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service delegation, led by Executive Chairman Comrade Jerry Adams, was also in attendance.
Hosted by the Ekiti State Government in partnership with the JTB and Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service, the retreat aims to chart a clear roadmap for strengthening Nigeria’s tax ecosystem, boosting efficiency, and improving revenue mobilisation across the federation ahead of the 1 January 2026 implementation date.
