Community Policing Drives Crime Reduction in Ondo and Ekiti, Says AIG Omolabi

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ajani Omolabi, overseeing Zones 17 including Ondo and Ekiti States, has attributed the significant drop in crime to community-based policing.

Speaking from his office in Akure, he emphasised that effective policing requires more than just police officers—it depends on collaboration with local communities.

Omolabi highlighted the use of technology, strengthened local security networks, an open-door policy to encourage public input, and intelligence-led policing as key strategies dismantling criminal networks in the region.

This approach aligns with Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun’s vision for a professional, intelligence-driven police force focused on reducing crime and improving internal security. Omolabi expressed gratitude to the governments of Ondo and Ekiti for their support and noted continuous training for officers to enhance community engagement.

Since his arrival, he stated, crime rates have drastically fallen, thanks to combined efforts with state police leadership and active community cooperation.
