Oyebanji Urges Ekiti Local Governments to Honour Financial Autonomy with Prudent Management

 Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has called on local government chairmen to manage their financial autonomy responsibly, warning that mismanagement could threaten this hard-won independence.

Speaking at Igogo-Ekiti during the inauguration of projects by the Ero Local Council Development Area boss, Felicia Ibiloye, Oyebanji stressed that the autonomy aims to accelerate impactful local projects that improve lives and reduce poverty.

Represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, the governor praised ongoing work in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and commercial farming across councils as fruits of this financial freedom.

He also highlighted the importance of sustaining peace and security, commending Ero LCDA for cooperative efforts with neighbouring Kwara State to combat cross-border crime.

Ibiloye credited the autonomy as key to her administration’s success in executing erosion control, solar power installation, and economic initiatives, promising zero tolerance for abandoned projects and completion within her tenure. Traditional rulers and residents were also commended for supporting the transformation of communities through these developments.

The governor appealed to citizens to support his second term to extend these benefits statewide, underlining the link between financial autonomy and effective grassroots democracy delivery.
