Ahead of the primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, the BAO Primary Election Committee on Friday inaugurated its executive members in the 16 local governments of the state.
The committee, headed by Chief Alaba Abejide and Mr Ayodeji Adarabierin as Secretary, is saddled with the responsibility to coordinate the smooth operations for the emergence of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming October primary.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the Ekiti State governorship election for July 20, 2026, while the APC will hold its primary to choose a candidate on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Inaugurating the members at the APC secretariat in Efon local government, Chief Abejide, represented by the state committee secretary, urged them to work seriously for the re-election of the governor.
The chairman emphasized that the move is a testament to the governor’s commitment to strengthening internal democratic processes and upholding electoral guidelines.
According to him, “this is significant because the governor is a man of democracy. He is following the ethos of the party to ensure that all the processes that are laid down according to the party are followed. We can see that the governor is a man of the people from the places we have visited.
“That is to show that democracy has to be followed to the latter. The governor cannot just impose himself even though he is loved. He has to follow the process and that’s why we want the people to speak. We don’t expect anything less than total victory and it has been established from where we have visited that there cannot be any outside votes aside Oyebanji and it is 100% sure for his victory.”
Reacting, chairman of the committee in Efon local government, Hon. Bose Olowookere reaffirmed the unalloyed support of Efon people behind the governor’s re-election and pledged to mobilize its members across the 10 wards in Efon Alaaye.
She said: ‘Efon Alaaye is the second home of the governor and of course, he schooled in this place and he has been part of us. This community believes that he is the son of the soil and they are giving him their full support. They are overjoyous that he is coming out for second term because the first one he did, he really made us proud and this is the reason Efon people are supporting him.
“Efon people are the first to endorse the governor for second term and knowing that he has showed interest to contest for second term, it’s not only members of the party that are supporting him but every citizen of Efon Alaaye. They are all ready to mobilize people for the primary election across the 10 wards that we have in Efon. The interesting part is that nobody forced them but they volunteered to be part of the committee. We are going to work very hard for the emergence of the governor.”
Speaking at Iyin-Ekiti, the committee chairman in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government, Rt. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed that the committee will mobilize grassroots support for the governor’s second-term bid across the LGA.
His counterpart from Ado local government, Hon. Bosun Osaloni tasked the party stalwarts to work assiduously for the governor’s re-election stressing that no stone will be left unturned ahead of the primary.
His words: We urged them to be loyal, transparent and to give the governor the full support for this coming primary. He is the man on ground and there is nothing we can do about it. We have charged the people to go home and work. As a party person, we don’t discriminate and we believe that nobody can defeat our principal.”
Underscoring the importance of unity, the committee treasurer in Ado-Ekiti, Rt. Hon. Bolaji Olagbaju charged them saying: “let’s work together in unity to achieve this. I believe that with more people involved, the work will be easier.”
In Moba local government, headed by Hon. Sunkanmi Onipede, chairmen of sub-committees were inaugurated as well as their members towards ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and well-organized process ahead of the primary.
