EKITI STATE FIRST LADY CONDEMNS KILLING OF MODUPE ALASIN, CALLS FOR DECISIVE ACTION AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Her Excellency, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, First Lady of Ekiti State and Chairperson of the State Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Management Committee, has expressed profound grief and condemnation over the tragic killing of Mrs. Modupe Alasin of Efon Alaaye, allegedly murdered by her husband following a domestic dispute.

Dr. Oyebanji described the incident as “a cruel and heartbreaking tragedy that underscores the urgent need to end all forms of gender-based violence in our society.”

“This is not merely a case of domestic abuse; it is a violation of fundamental human rights and a painful reminder of the dangers faced by too many women and girls. Modupe’s life should have been protected, not cut short. Our thoughts and prayers are with her children, her family, and the community left to bear this irreparable loss,” she said.

In response, the First Lady has directed the Ekiti State GBV Management Committee to intensify preventive interventions, enhance survivor support services, and expand grassroots sensitization campaigns across all communities in the state.

She further urged the Ekiti State Police Command to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, stressing the need for swift justice.

“The law must take its full course. The perpetrator must be held accountable—not only for Modupe’s death but also to send a clear message that Ekiti State will not tolerate violence in any form,” she emphasized.

Dr. Oyebanji called on all residents to join forces in the fight against GBV by speaking out and reporting incidents promptly.

“To every woman or girl who feels unsafe or unheard, I say this: your voice matters, and help is available. The Ekiti GBV Response Mechanism is active and ready to provide protection and support. Violence has no place in our homes, communities or state”. She Echoed.
