The Ekiti State Government has stepped in to resolve the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Aisegba-Ekiti, Aiyekire/ Gbonyin Local Government, calling on all parties to respect established customs.
The government warned against illegal installation and promotion of chiefs, directing the Apalufin of Aisegba, Oba Adeyanju Omotoyinbo, to honour tradition granting the quarter heads the authority to install their own chiefs.
This follows complaints from the Alasura of Asura Quarters, Chief Thomas Anifowose, and the Aduro of Aduro Quarters, Chief Abiola Omoniyi, who allege that the monarch has encroached on their roles by elevating chiefs to kingmaker status.
Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye appealed for peace and urged the Apalufin-in-Council to allow quartersβ heads to continue the long-standing practice of installing chiefs, while also requiring the monarchβs consent and blessing to maintain respect and unity.
She emphasised that the government recognises only 13 kingmakers in line with official chieftaincy declarations and dismissed claims of arbitrary promotions.
Meanwhile, Oba Omotoyinboβs representative, Chief Adefemi Adekola Awe, insisted that traditional authority lies solely with the monarch, warning that any usurpation by quarter heads undermines customs.
The governmentβs intervention aims to preserve peace and uphold tradition in the community.
