Ekiti State is gearing up for a grand cultural celebration as 52,000 tourists, artists, and stakeholders from Nigeria and beyond are expected to converge for the maiden Ekiti International Theatre Festival from August 20 to 25, 2025.

The festival, announced by Festival Director Prof. Rasaki Ojo Bakare in Ado-Ekiti, is a private-public partnership between the Duke of Shomolu Foundation and the Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

Local government areas will compete by showcasing their theatrical talents, with the top four receiving prizes as part of a wider effort to discover and nurture young creatives. Highlights of the festival include three command performances honouring Nigerian heroes such as Ladi Kwali, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Chief Moshood Abiola.

The event aims to boost Ekiti’s economy and promote its rich cultural heritage, positioning the state as a vibrant hub for creativity and talent.Β
